The Republic of Malawi, located in South Africa, is a landlocked nation. The economy of Malawi is highly dependant on agriculture. Most of the population is engaged in farming and most of the exports revenues are generated through agricultural products. Tea, coffee, sugarcane and tobacco are the main agricultural products. Other crops are cotton, corn, potatoes, sorghum, maize, beans, rice, millet, pulses, root crops, groundnuts and cassava. It is a member of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the Generalized Systems of Preferences. Main industries are tobacco, tea, sugar, sawmill products, cement and consumer goods. |
